tropes in this book
verdict
kai doesn't trust many people when it comes to his son. honestly, he barely trusts anyone at all. but little by little, she works her way into both of their lives in a way nobody expected. she shows up for him when he needs it most, and he starts realizing that maybe carrying everything alone isn't actually strength. sweet, emotional, and packed with heart, this is one of my favorite single dad romances for a reason.
vibe
if the right move gave us ryan shay, caught up gave us kai rhodes.
and somehow liz tomforde made me fall in love with another man in the same family.
this book is warm, emotional, and completely steals your heart because at its core, it's really about showing up for people. kai loves his son more than anything, which is exactly why he struggles so much when he realizes he can't do everything alone.
enter the coach's daughter.
what starts as an arrangement for the summer turns into something neither of them saw coming.

reader fit
you love single dad romances, forced proximity, baseball romances, found family, and those who would do absolutely anything for the people they love. if watching someone's walls slowly come down is your thing, this book delivers.
you want lots of spice or dramatic relationship chaos. this romance is built on emotional connection, trust, and all the little moments that slowly become something bigger.
content warnings
grief, family struggles, emotional vulnerability, and difficult parent-child dynamics.

book three in the windy city series. you can absolutely read it as a standalone, but i will forever recommend reading the whole series because every book adds something special to the world. and yes, this one has a happily ever after.
