verdict
i get the hype.
between the pirate setting, the darker themes, the obsession, and erik bloodsinger being exactly the kind of man that gets us into trouble, i was hooked.
vibe
a pirate king kidnaps the daughter of his enemy and somehow it only gets more unhinged from there.
dark, addictive, obsessive, and packed with enough tension to keep you saying "one more chapter" until suddenly it's 2 a.m. and you've made a terrible decision for tomorrow morning.

reader fit
you finished fourth wing and immediately wanted something darker, spicier, and a little more morally questionable. this is not a sweet romantasy. the romance is built on revenge, obsession, and years of history neither of them can escape. erik starts this story with one goal and unfortunately for him, that goal becomes a lot harder once livia enters the picture.
you want a light fantasy romance. this world is darker than a lot of the romantasy currently dominating booktok. there are heavier themes throughout the series and the romance develops inside a world that can be brutal.
content warnings
kidnapping, violence, death, torture, warfare, sexual assault, references to rape, trauma, grief, and darker themes throughout.
please check the author's full content warnings before reading.
standalone + hea
this is book one in the ever seas series.
the story continues throughout the series, so you'll want the next book ready.
