Lawless God review — Lola King (spice level, tropes & is it worth it)
lawless god by lola king is she’s the reason he went to prison, and when he finally gets out, the first thing he does is come back for her..
if you’re looking for something dark but still redeemable… this isn’t it.
this is the kind of book where you’re questioning yourself the entire time.
and still not stopping.
verdict
my jaw was on the floor for most of this book. the entire time i was reading, i couldn't decide if i wanted her to run faster or if i wanted to see what nathan white was going to do next. somehow, against all logic and common sense, i became completely invested. dark, disturbing, addictive, and the kind of romance that leaves you staring at a wall when you're finished.
vibe
this book is dark. not booktok dark. not "he's a little possessive" dark. i mean genuinely dark. captor and captive, obsession, revenge, and two characters who are both making questionable life choices at every turn. if you're looking for a morally gray mmc, keep scrolling. nathan white is morally black and the book never tries to convince you otherwise.
“When a devastatingly beautiful blue-eyed monster hides under your bed, ready to eat you whole, are you meant to let your body react to him? And if not, what am I supposed to do to stop him?”

spice level breakdown
spice rating: 4/5
🌶🌶🌶🌶
this is not light spice.
it’s intense, tied to control, and built on a relationship that’s crossed too many lines to count.
it matches the energy of the story.
tropes in lawless god
- captor x captive
- revenge romance
- obsessive mmc
- morally black villain

final thoughts
this is one of those books that sets the standard for dark romance.
not because it’s easy to read — but because it commits to our darkest desires.
it doesn’t soften the character. it doesn’t clean up and pretend to be what we should want.
and that’s exactly why it works.
should you read it?
if you like dark romance that leans fully into obsession, control, and morally black characters… yes.
if you need something safe, balanced, or redeemable… skip it.
want more like this? say less.
