The Endless Fall review — Emmerson Hoyt (spice level, tropes & is it worth it)

Published

the endless fall by emmerson hoyt — she spent her whole life trying to get out. he spent his acting like she didn’t exist. now he’s back, he’s her brother’s best friend, and suddenly he’s the only reason she’s not leaving.

verdict

ryker bennett had me fooled for a while. just like her, i thought he couldn't stand her. but the more the story unfolds, the more you realize he's always there when it matters most. beneath all that gruff, protective energy is a man who's been carrying far more feelings than he's willing to admit, and watching those walls finally come down was one of my favorite parts of the book.

vibe

contemporary romance with brother’s best friend romance, small town romance, and who did this to you and emotional bite.

“I’d notice you if I was deaf and blind because you’re branded on my goddamned soul, Willa.”

The Endless Fall by Emmerson Hoyt

is the endless fall worth it?

this leans darker than your typical small town romance.

not in a chaotic way — more in the she’s been through it and he knows it kind of way.

she’s been bullied her entire life. all she wants is out.

and right when she’s about to leave… he comes back.

her brother’s best friend.

the one she thought hated her.

except… he’s always there when it matters.

and that’s where it starts to shift.

my take

if he’s supposed to hate her but still shows up anyway… i don’t want it.

the book

the endless fall
tense, emotional, and built on an unspoken dynamic that doesn’t say what it actually is until it’s too late.

spice level breakdown

spice rating: 4/5

🌶🌶🌶🌶

this is spicy — but it’s the tension that makes it.

it’s that “we shouldn’t be doing this” energy the entire time.

the kind where it feels a little wrong, which is exactly why it is so delicious.

tropes in the endless fall

  • brother’s best friend romance
  • small town romance
  • who did this to you
  • slow burn tension
  • protective mmc
  • emotional healing

final thoughts

this works because everything is held back on purpose.

he knows she’s leaving. she knows she needs to go.

and everything in between that just… sits there.

it’s not loud tension. it’s quiet. constant. the kind where you feel it in every interaction because of what’s not being said.

and him? he’s not chaotic.

he’s protective. controlled. doing what he has to do because of his sister — even if it means not doing what he actually wants.

and that’s what makes it hit.

because it’s not about whether they’ll end up together.

it’s about everything that’s keeping them from it.

should you read it?

if you like a protective mmc who holds back more than he should, tension that never really lets up, and a relationship built on everything they’re not saying… yes.

this isn’t instant payoff.

it’s slow. it’s frustrating. and it makes you sit there knowing exactly what’s coming… and still waiting for it.

and if that’s your thing?

you’ll stay in it.

want more like this? say less.

the full romance library is waiting.
