bybookishbabe’s best romance books of 2026
this isn’t a ranked list.
it’s the books i genuinely couldn’t shut up about.
the ones that stayed in my head long after i finished them. the ones that made me immediately start recommending them to strangers on the internet. the ones i’m still thinking about weeks later.
i’m only adding books that completely consumed me, so this list stays small on purpose.
it updates throughout the year as i find new favorites.
right now there are 3 books on it.
i’m aiming for ten.
bookmark this page and check back because if a book earns a spot here, you already know it’s going to take over my personality for at least a month.
My Dreadful Darling
i finished this book and immediately didn't trust anyone. the kind of dark romance that gets inside your head and stays there. dreadful sharpe is not someone you should want. i wanted him anyway.
My Dreadful Darling
✓ on kindle unlimitedshe carries her father's sins like a death sentence — and he's spent years making sure she never forgets it. but he's not the only one who wants her to drown.
why i loved it a book that shows the true blur between love and hate
Phantom Mine
the tension in this book is criminal. matteo leone is the reason i have unrealistic expectations. and the yearning? it builds so slowly, so deliberately, that when it finally gives — you feel like you earned it too.
Phantom Mine
✓ on kindle unlimitedshe walked into his club looking for a killer. he's been waiting for her since the night she never showed up.
why i loved it proof that yearning is, in fact, the hottest personality trait.
The Lies of Lena
this book made me remember exactly what it felt like to fall in love at sixteen. the longing. the carrying it with you everywhere. and then it broke my heart and had the nerve to end on a cliffhanger. i carried this thing from room to room just to stay inside it a little longer.
The Lies of Lena
✓ on kindle unlimitedafter falling for the kingdom's hidden prince, a young mage is forced to flee when witches become hunted, only to find him again five years later after both of their lives have been forever changed.
why i loved it i couldn't put this book down. it made me remember exactly what it feels like to fall in love at sixteen, then broke my heart and left me desperate for book two.
