this book belongs because…

proof that yearning is, in fact, the hottest personality trait.

verdict

i don't hand out six-star reads often, but if i could, this would get one. matteo is one of the best mafia mmcs i've ever read, and the way he loves valentina had me completely wrecked. obsessive, loyal, emotional, protective, and incapable of seeing anyone else, he's the reason i'll be thinking about this book for a very long time.

vibe

this is one of six books on my entire site to earn six stars.
obsessive mafia men, yearning that physically hurt me, love at first sight done right, and enough spice to justify canceling your plans.

reader fit

read this if

you love mafia romance with actual plot. you want an mmc who's completely gone for one woman from the very beginning. you've been looking for a love at first sight romance that actually earns it. or you're simply in the mood for a man who's been quietly obsessed for far longer than anyone realizes.

skip this if

love at first sight is a trope you refuse to read. or if mafia romance just isn't your thing. otherwise? i genuinely think you're missing out.

content warnings

violence, murder, organized crime, grief, trauma, and darker mafia romance themes. always check the author's trigger warnings before reading.

Phantom Mine faq

is phantom mine worth reading?
yes. this is one of the strongest mafia romances i’ve read. the relationship actually lands and the emotional payoff is what makes it stick.

4/5. the spice is explicit, but it’s the tension and matteo’s devotion that make it hit.
is phantom mine on kindle unlimited?
yes.
is phantom mine a standalone?
it’s book two in the london underworld series, but it works as a standalone. you’ll get more context from devil mine, but you won’t feel lost starting here.

recommended, but not required. devil mine builds the world, but phantom mine stands on its own.

matteo is the mmc and valentina is the fmc.
what are the tropes in phantom mine?
mafia romance, love at first sight, he falls first, obsessive mmc, strip club setting, murder mystery, and touch her and die energy.
is phantom mine dark?
moderately. there’s violence and morally gray choices, but it leans more emotional and obsessive than fully dark.
does phantom mine have a happy ending?
yes.
what should i read after phantom mine?
start the society of villains series with bad bishop, then go into twisted pawn. if you want more from this world, go back to devil mine.
