books like Between Tides & Thunder
between tides & thunder is a hard one to follow.
mostly because it somehow gives you an entire romantasy journey in one book.
the enemies to lovers. the forced proximity. the man she absolutely is not supposed to fall for.
the whole everyone says he’s a monster but maybe everyone is wrong situation.
no cliffhanger.
no waiting two years for book three to find out if they even get to be together.
just a full standalone with a romance that takes its time and zevayr being very inconveniently easy to fall for.
so i’m not going to tell you these are six exact replacements.
they aren’t.
instead, these are the books i would read next depending on what part of between tides & thunder you’re trying to get back to.
start here: quick picks
6 books like between tides & thunder
1. powerless by lauren roberts
powerless. definitely.
if you loved the romantasy side of between tides & thunder and the whole wanting someone you probably should not want thing…
this is where i’m sending you first.
because apparently a prince being completely off limits only makes him hotter.
who knew. ;)
paedyn is thrown into brutal trials while hiding the fact that she has no powers, and kai is very much someone she should not be getting involved with. enemies to lovers, forbidden love, touch her and die…
all things we support here.
and kai azer is still one of my favorite mmcs ever.
so there’s also that.
Powerless
✓ on kindle unlimiteda girl with no powers must survive brutal trials to prove her worth and suddenly finds herself pulled into the kingdom’s orbit around the prince and his brother.
2. the ever king by l.j. andrews
if you want the plot twists…
and you want the devotion a little darker…
the ever king.
erik is not zevayr.
he is darker. more obsessive. more morally questionable. and the romance starts with revenge and kidnapping, so we are obviously already making great decisions.
but erik is worth it.
i promise.
The Ever King
✕ not on kindle unlimitedafter her father kidnaps him, he escapes and takes his daughter in return, and when they finally meet again, it isn’t what either of them expected.
3. the lies of lena by kylie snow
this book. ugh.
i will keep recommending it.
because the lies of lena is just an incredible romantasy, but what makes it hit for me is how real it feels.
raw.
personal.
painful in a way that has almost nothing to do with the magic.
lena and silas fall in love, are ripped apart, and five years later find themselves back in each other’s lives when absolutely everything has changed. the book leans hard into forbidden love, first love, second-chance yearning, and the very unfortunate reality that loving someone does not necessarily mean you get to have them.
i want you.
i probably shouldn’t.
and wanting you does not magically make this easy.
The Lies of Lena
✓ on kindle unlimitedafter falling for the kingdom's hidden prince, a young mage is forced to flee when witches become hunted, only to find him again five years later after both of their lives have been forever changed.
4. runebreaker
runebreaker is giving what it needs to give.
that’s really it.
you have a girl who can break fae magic. a ruthless king. forced proximity. fated mates. touch her and die. and a man who becomes increasingly less okay about one woman as the book goes on.
what more do you need from me?
Runebreaker
✓ on kindle unlimiteda girl who can break fae magic frees a ruthless king and becomes both his greatest weapon and his darkest obsession.
5. we who will die by stacia stark
this one is softer.
less spice. WAY less spice.
more trials. more powers. and another set of brothers making your life difficult.
we who will die throws arvelle into deadly trials to assassinate an emperor, only for her first love to turn out to be the emperor’s son. and then his brother enters the equation and suddenly you are questioning which man you were even supposed to be rooting for in the first place.
i’m team rorrik.
obviously.
read it and come back to me.
We Who Will Die
✓ on kindle unlimitedshe enters deadly trials to assassinate an emperor... only to discover her first love is the emperor's son.
6. fourth wing by rebecca yarros
and lastly…
fourth wing.
if you have somehow been living under a rock and have not heard of this romantasy…
well.
here you go.
dragons. deadly training. enemies to lovers. xaden riorson.
i really don’t feel like i need to sell this one that hard.
violet is thrown into a brutal dragon rider academy she was never supposed to survive and catches the attention of possibly the most dangerous man there. it is book one of the empyrean series, so unlike between tides & thunder, you are absolutely signing yourself up for a commitment.
but if you somehow missed one of the biggest romantasy series…
consider this me fixing that.
Fourth Wing
✓ on kindle unlimitedthrown into a brutal dragon rider academy she was never meant to survive, she’s forced to prove she’s not fragile… while catching the attention of the one man who might be the most dangerous of all.
if zevayr was your real problem…
we can talk about political marriages and fantasy kingdoms all day.
but we both know why some of us are still thinking about this book.
zevayr.
the feared war commander sent to deliver a princess to his brother…
who somehow falls in love with her on the way.
terrible planning.
