is Kindle Unlimited worth it? (i checked the romance books i actually recommend)

Published

i’ll save you the generic review.

yes, i have a kindle.

yes, i have kindle unlimited.

and yes… i have the kindle app on literally every device i own.

my kindle.

my ipad.

my phone.

even my computer.

because the second i finish one chapter, i’m probably reading another.

after reading hundreds of romance books, i think i have a pretty good idea of who kindle unlimited is actually for…

and who should probably save their money.

the short answer

yes.

but only if you read enough to make it worth it.

if you read one book every month or two…

probably not.

if you read two or three romance books a month…

it’s already starting to pay for itself.

if you’re like me and somehow finish 10+ books every month…

i honestly don’t know how my bank account would survive without it.

my quick verdict

your reading habits my verdict
1 book a month ❌ probably not worth it
2–3 romance books ✅ usually worth it
4+ books 💸 it’ll save you money
mostly indie romance 🖤 absolutely
mostly brand-new traditionally published books 🤷 maybe not
you DNF books often ✅ worth it just for that

kindle vs kindle unlimited

kindle

the device.

you buy it once.

you can read books you purchase, borrow, or download through kindle unlimited.

kindle unlimited

the subscription.

think of it like prime video…

except for books.

not every book is included, but you can borrow eligible books, return them, and grab another without paying for each one individually.

you don’t even need a kindle to use it.

the kindle app works on your phone, ipad, tablet, and computer too.

i genuinely didn’t realize that for the longest time.

why i think it’s worth it

i don’t feel guilty dnfing books anymore

this might honestly be my favorite part.

if i buy a $6 ebook, i suddenly feel obligated to finish it.

even if i’m bored.

with kindle unlimited?

i’ll happily stop after 20%. 10%. even 2%.

return it.

move on.

i’ve genuinely saved hundreds of dollars

i read more than ten books most months.

there’s absolutely no world where buying every single ebook or book would be cheaper.

when i wouldn’t recommend it

if you…

  • only read one book every month or two
  • only read brand new releases
  • already get everything from libby

…i’d probably skip it.

kindle unlimited shines when you’re constantly reading.

not when you’re reading a couple of times a year.

now the books

if you mostly read…

  • dark romance
  • romantasy
  • sports romance
  • indie romance

you’re going to have a very good time.

here are some of my favorites on kindle unlimited.

final thoughts

i love my kindle.

i genuinely don’t leave home without it.

but if i had to choose between the device and kindle unlimited…

i’d still choose the subscription.

because the device lets me read.

kindle unlimited lets me read everything (well almost).

want more like this? say less.

the full romance library is waiting.

morally gray men, slow burns, hockey romances, villains who should absolutely not be attractive… it’s all there.

frequently asked questions

is kindle unlimited worth it for romance readers?
if you read at least two or three romance books a month, i’d say yes. especially if you love indie romance, dark romance, or romantasy where a lot of the best books are on kindle unlimited.
what’s the difference between a kindle and kindle unlimited?
a kindle is the reading device. kindle unlimited is the monthly subscription that lets you borrow eligible books. you don’t actually need a kindle to use kindle unlimited because the kindle app works on your phone, tablet, ipad, and computer too.
how many books do i need to read for kindle unlimited to be worth it?
for me, around two books a month is where it starts paying for itself. if you’re reading four or more books every month, it’s one of the best subscriptions you can have.
are all romance books on kindle unlimited?
no. lots of indie romance is, but many traditionally published books aren’t. books also come on and off kindle unlimited, so availability changes all the time.
can i read kindle unlimited books without a kindle?
yes. i use the kindle app on my phone, ipad, and computer all the time. you don’t need the device to enjoy the subscription.
what are the best kindle unlimited romance books?
start with my dreadful darling, phantom mine, the lies of lena, between tides & thunder, and plenty more in my romance library. they’re some of my highest-rated kindle unlimited reads.
