Devil Mine review — Khai Hara (spice level, tropes & is it worth it)

Published

devil mine by khai hara is the mafia romance that reminded me why i fell in love with the genre in the first place.

the book that pulled me out of my mafia romance slump.

i almost gave up on this one.

thankfully, i didn’t.

once devil mine finds its footing, it becomes exactly the kind of mafia romance i’ve been looking for. obsessive without feeling repetitive, emotional without losing the tension, and led by a man who becomes so completely consumed by one woman that i couldn’t stop turning the pages.

this is the first book in the london underworld series and, while each book follows a different couple, i’d absolutely recommend starting here. not only because thiago deserves your attention, but because it makes phantom mine even more rewarding later on.

is devil mine worth it?

yes, especially if you’ve been feeling burned out by mafia romance.

this isn’t the darkest mafia romance you’ll ever read, and it isn’t trying to be. instead, it leans into the romance. thiago falls hard, the obsession builds naturally, and every decision he makes revolves around protecting the woman he never expected to want.

if you’re looking for nonstop mafia politics, this probably won’t be your favorite. but if you want an arranged marriage that slowly turns into all-consuming devotion with plenty of possessive energy along the way, this absolutely delivers.

spice level breakdown

spice rating: 4/5

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

the spice is explicit, frequent, and exactly what i want from a mafia romance.

there’s plenty of tension leading up to it, but once these two finally give in, khai hara doesn’t hold back. every scene feels like an extension of their relationship rather than something thrown in just for shock value, which made the romance hit even harder for me.

tropes in devil mine

what to read after devil mine

trying to figure out what had you completely hooked?

if it was the obsessive mafia man, the possessiveness, and the london underworld world, read phantom mine next.

it’s book two in the series, follows a different couple, and somehow takes everything i loved about devil mine and makes it even better.

if it was the arranged marriage and morally gray mmc you loved, pick up bad bishop.

or skip the guessing entirely.

he’s possessive, relentless, protective, and once he falls, there’s absolutely no going back. beneath all the power and intimidation is a man who would burn his world to the ground for the woman he loves.
