London Underworld series by Khai Hara reading order (and which book you should start with)

Published

there are a lot of mafia romances.

very few of them make me immediately pick up the next book.

the london underworld series did.

these books have everything i want from mafia romance: obsessive men, emotional payoff, enough plot to keep things interesting, and relationships that actually feel like the heart of the story.

right now there are two books in the series, and while they follow different couples, i’d still recommend reading them in order. you’ll appreciate the returning characters, understand the world better, and trust me…

it’s worth it.

the book that pulled me out of my mafia romance slump.

thiago and tess start this series with an arranged marriage, a possessive cartel boss who falls hard, and enough emotional tension to make the romance hit just as hard as the spice.

if you love obsessive mmcs, marriage of convenience, and he chases her, this is where you should start.

i thought devil mine was great.

then i read phantom mine.

this somehow takes everything that worked in the first book and raises the bar. the yearning is better. the mystery is stronger. matteo became one of my favorite mafia mmcs i’ve read in years, and this ended up being one of only six books on my entire website to earn six stars.

if you love obsessive devotion, “touch her and die,” and a man who’s quietly been in love with her all along…

you’re going to understand why i haven’t shut up about this book.

do you need to read the london underworld books in order?

technically?

no.

each book follows a different couple, so you won’t be lost if you start with phantom mine.

would i recommend it?

i would, but you don’t have to.

devil mine introduces the london underworld, the families, and the characters you’ll see again later. phantom mine is even more satisfying when you’ve already spent time in this world.

this depends on what you’re looking for.

read devil mine if you want:

  • obsessive yearning
  • love at first sight done right
  • touch her and die energy
  • mystery, revenge plot
  • one of my favorite fictional men of the year

for me?

phantom mine wins.

my thoughts on the series

this is quickly becoming one of my favorite mafia romance worlds.

this is one of my favorite mafia romance worlds to date.

i hit a major mafia romance slump before picking up these books.

every story started blending together. the plots felt recycled, the characters were forgettable, and somewhere along the way i stopped getting excited to pick up another mafia romance.

then i read devil mine.

and then phantom mine.

consider me fully resuscitated.

khai hara reminded me why i fell in love with this genre in the first place. the plots actually keep you invested. the tension builds instead of being rushed. the spice feels like it belongs there. and the men? don’t even get me started.

this is mafia romance done exceptionally well.

what to read after the london underworld series

still chasing that mafia romance high?

if what you loved was the interconnected world and morally gray men, start the society of villains series with bad bishop.

if you finish that and still need another obsession, go straight into twisted pawn. i liked bad bishop.

i loved twisted pawn.

or skip the guessing entirely.
