The Lies of Lena review — Kylie Snow (spice level, tropes & is it worth it)
the lies of lena by kylie snow reminded me what it feels like to completely disappear into a book.
i carried this thing from room to room.
this is book one in the otacian chronicles. if you love first love, forbidden romance, longing, and stories that make you remember what it felt like to fall in love at sixteen, don’t skip this one. just know… it gets darker, and the cliffhanger is absolutely rude.
is the lies of lena worth it?
yes.
this wasn’t a six-star read for me.
it was something different.
it reminded me why i love reading.
i couldn’t put it down.
i was reading at my kitchen table.
in the bath.
outside.
on the couch.
every chance i got, i picked this book back up.
that doesn’t happen nearly as often as i’d like anymore.

spice level breakdown
spice rating: 2/5
🌶️🌶️
don’t come into this expecting a super spicy romantasy.
there are a couple of scenes here and there, but that’s not why this book works.
it’s the first love.
the longing.
the five years apart.
the feeling that these two never really stopped loving each other.
tropes in the lies of lena
- forbidden love
- romantasy
- fated mates
- witches
- hidden prince
- first love
- second chance vibes
what to read after the lies of lena
if you’re already halfway to opening book two…
i don’t blame you.
but once you’ve finished the series…
if you’re looking for another romantasy that completely pulls you into its world, the ever king should be next. it’s the closest match i’ve found, and one of my favorite romantasy series.
if it was the forbidden love that completely won you over, pick up the powerless trilogy.
and if you’re in the mood for another standalone romantasy with incredible romance and just enough emotional damage, between tides & thunder is an easy recommendation.

final thoughts
i know i keep saying every book i recommend is one i genuinely loved.
this one reminded me why.
it made me forget my phone.
it made me carry it from room to room.
it made me remember exactly what it feels like to completely disappear into a story.
and honestly?
i think that’s one of the best compliments i can give a book.
