dark romance books 2026 (the ones worth clearing your schedule for)
2026 is proving one thing already.
dark romance authors have absolutely no intention of letting us recover.
between long-awaited sequels, brand new series, and a few books i’ve been counting down the days for, this year’s releases are looking ridiculously good.
this isn’t every dark romance releasing in 2026.
it’s the handful i’ve already read, the books i’m genuinely excited for, and the releases i think are actually worth clearing your schedule for.
i’ll keep updating this list throughout the year as more books release, so bookmark it and check back.

what you’ll find in this list
only the dark romance books i genuinely think deserve your attention.
some i’ve already read. some are sitting at the top of my tbr. every book here earned its spot because i trust the author, love the series, or couldn’t stop thinking about it after i finished.
not everything. just the ones that feel like they’ll stick.
my take
i’m ridiculously picky with dark romance.
i don’t just want shock value or a morally gray man with a tragic childhood.
i want obsession that actually feels obsessive. chemistry that builds instead of appearing out of nowhere. plot that keeps me guessing. fictional men that make me question every life decision i’ve ever made.
if it leaves me staring at the wall after i finish it…
it’s probably making this list.
already out
twisted pawn → full breakdown
book two in the society of villains series.
i somehow loved this even more than bad bishop. darker, smarter, and somehow even more addictive.
Twisted Pawn
✓ on kindle unlimitedshe betrayed him twice… now the man she once loved is hunting her, and this time he plans to finish it
my dreadful darling → full breakdown
this one absolutely lived up to every expectation i had.
beautifully unsettling, emotional, and one of those books that refuses to leave your brain.
My Dreadful Darling
✓ on kindle unlimitedshe carries her father's sins like a death sentence — and he's spent years making sure she never forgets it. but he's not the only one who wants her to drown.
currently on my 2026 tbr ⭐
i haven’t read these yet, so i’m not going to pretend i know they’ll be five-star reads.
what i do know is these are the releases i’m genuinely excited to pick up based on the authors, the series, and how much i’ve loved their previous books.
fallen rook by l.j. shen
book three in the society of villains series.
after bad bishop and twisted pawn, there was never a chance i was skipping this one. this is easily my most anticipated dark romance release of the year.
→ expected september 22, 2026
daemonica by kaylie smith
book three in the wicked games series.
if you’ve been following this series, you probably already have this on your preorder list. i’m expecting more dark magic, morally questionable decisions, and plenty of chaos.
